DIY Fringe Letters for Cinco De Mayo!

DIY Fringe Letter

 

We’ve got a special treat for you today!  Here’s a cute DIY to add a little festive decor to your Cinco De Mayo party…or any party for that matter!

Materials Needed

• Birchwood letters…buy here!
• Colorful Tissue Paper
• Glue
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Gather your materials.

• You can purchase single letters, or purchase multiple letters to create a banner or a word…for example “yay” “congrats” or “happy birthday”.  We have different fonts you can choose from, and all wood comes unfinished…perfect for crafting!
• Tissue paper can be found just about anywhere, we bought ours from the local dollar store.

2. Cut the tissue paper into 1-2 inch strips, depending on the size of your letters, and cut small sections into each of the strips to create the fringe.  You don’t have to worry about being exact, we found that messier cuts added more texture to the fringe which made it look more full.

3. Starting at the bottom of your letter, glue the fringed strips into place one row at a time, slightly overlap each layer as you go.  This gives you a more fluid look with the fringe layers closer together.

4. Glue the layers until you have covered the entire letter.

5. Once the whole letter is covered, tidy up the extra fringe around the edges using either scissors.  We want to make sure you can really see the shape of your letter so we can tell what its supposed to say.

 

6. Allow time to dry (shouldn’t take too long), step back and admire your festive letters!

These letters are great for adding a little pizzazz to your taco bar, but they are also very versatile and can work for several occasions.  By simply changing up the color scheme, you can use these as  banners, backdrops for photo booths, weddings and birthday parties…anything really!

DIY moss covered letter

Moss covered letters look great, especially outdoors and in gardens.  This look can be achieved a number of ways, but in this post we will be showing you a step by step guide to creating this look with faux moss from a craft store.

Step 1. Gather your supplies
You will need:
-Wooden letter…buy here!
-Crossgrain ribbon for hanging
-Glue gun
-Paint + paint brush
-Scissors
–Craft Moss…we purchased ours from the dollar store and used about 1.5 bags on this project
*Optional–Butterflies-we picked these up at the dollar store too!

Step 2. Paint your letter.
We used acrylic craft paint and painted 2 coats for even coverage.  We left 5 minutes to dry in between coats.  We chose green so that if any of the wood were to show through the moss it would blend better looking more natural.

Step 3. Using your hot glue gun, begin gluing the craft moss onto the letter.  Use scissors as necessary to cut and separate large clumps of the moss for even application.

Step 4.  Once you achieved the desired look of the moss, set aside for a few minutes to dry completely.  Since you are using hot glue, it should be completely dry pretty quickly.

Step 5. *Optional
We decided we wanted to add a little something extra to our letter to make it a little more whimsical.  We used a pack of butterflies to create this look.  We simply placed a small amount of hot glue on the butterflies and placed them into the moss.

Step 6. Once you are happy with your letter, turn over and using the hot glue, attach the ribbon.  You could use a number of things in place of the ribbon, such as twine or wire…it just depends on the look you are trying to achieve.

Allow time for ribbon to dry and hang your new diy moss letter, and be sure to tag us in your pictures! #metalunlimited

Step by step guide to creating floral letters

Step 1. Gather your materials

You will need:

Unfinished wooden block letters…buy here!
Faux Flowers
Acrylic paint color of choice + paint brush
Scissors
Glue gun

Step 2. Paint your letters.  You can skip this step if you want, but  we chose green to act as ‘grass’ in case the flowers allowed some of the wooden letter to show through.

Step 3. While allowing your paint to dry, you can start removing the stems from your faux flowers.  We were able to simply pull some of the flower buds from the stems, while we needed to cut some others.

Step 4. Now to the most fun part of this DIY!  Using your artist abilities, arrange your flowers in the most pleasing way to you and glue away!

Step 5. Hang and enjoy!

These floral letters don’t have to be for mom, they can be used for a number of events, centerpieces, and backdrops.  We’d love for you to comment how you would use these letters below.

Materials:

Wood vine monogram initials…buy here!
Glue gun
Flower vine…we purchased ours from a local flower shop
Acrylic paint in your color of choice + paint brush

Steps:

1. Paint your monogram and allow time to dry.  We used a thin coat of acrylic and it was completely dry in about 10 minutes
2. Glue your flower vine to the outer ring of your monogram sign, hang and enjoy!

15 minute family name monogram DIY

This video shows step by step instructions on how to make a quick and easy custom family name sign for your home.

Materials needed:

1. Metal Unlimited Family Name Wood Sign…buy here!
2. Adhesive acrylic
3. Exacto Knife
4. Patience & a steady hand

Step 1. Measure your vinyl and cut to correct size
Step 2. Peel away paper backing from vinyl and lay your sign face down on the sticky side of the vinyl
Step 3. Use your exacto knife to cut away the excess vinyl from the wooden sign
Step 4. Once all your vinyl is cut away, add any embellishments to your sign and hang it
Step 5. Enjoy!
